Due to increasing interest in becoming Catholic among folks, the OCIA team is seeking new catechists and sponsors. Catechists explain the teachings of the Church during classes that meet Sunday 9 to 10:15am, September through May. Sponsors mentor and befriend new Catholics, offering encouragement and share their own faith experiences. Sponsors come to 4 or 5 classes per year, attend the 10:30am Mass on Sundays to sit with their sponsee. If interested, please email [email protected].The Discipleship Formation team is seeking new catechists, gatekeepers and chaperones. Catechists lead classes teaching the basics of the Catholic faith. There are six classes in the fall and six in the spring for the middle/high school program and more for the elementary school program. They are held in the late afternoon or early evening. Gatekeepers check youth into classes and other events. Chaperones provide adult supervision for special events. If interested, please email [email protected]. There is a need for guys to drive supplies on Tuesday mornings from St. Colman's Home in Watervliet (11 Haswell Road) to the Mary's Corner in Albany (369 Livingston Avenue). For more information and to sign up, please email [email protected].
There is a great need for mentors (especially male mentors) for youth in our area. Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region is always looking for mentors to match with youth. Please see the attachments below for more information on the organization and what commitment level is involved. We hope many men of the parish will answer this call to serve youth in our area!
